Black Sun (2025)
“The Andalusian desert doesn’t just reflect light; it absorbs it. This is a record of a sun so heavy it feels dark, and a landscape that refuses to be tamed.”
The Arid Synthesis: This 120 x 140 cm work is a formal analysis of the Andalusian mountain desert. It captures the scorched palette of the South—where the vibrant ochres of the earth meet a sky bleached into a heavy, monochromatic haze. By applying my signature Blinkered technique to a vertical memory of the Spanish sierras, I have distilled the vast, punishing heat into a series of dense, horizontal strata of pigment and shadow.
The Musical Cipher: The title Black Sun serves as a cryptic gateway to the work's rhythmic structure. It is a direct reference to a sonic influence that dominated the studio during the layering process—perhaps a lyric, a mood, or a distortion that mirrors the heat-haze of the desert. The viewer is invited to decode this auditory layer to fully experience the painting’s internal, vibrating tempo.
Materiality & Erosion: Executed on 3D linen canvas, the surface of this piece is a testament to physical endurance. Using sponges and rags, I build and erode dozens of layers of acrylic to mimic the natural weathering of the mountains. This results in a "kaleidoscopic" depth of earth tones, making it a powerful, tactile statement piece for a contemporary, minimalist interior.
