Benzaiten No. 04 is part of an ongoing series exploring identity through the meeting of Japanese visual culture and contemporary pop aesthetics. Inspired by Benzaiten, the Japanese goddess associated with art, music and creativity, the faceless figure is reimagined through bold colour, graphic patterns and the recurring presence of cats. The absence of facial features shifts attention away from individual identity and towards the roles, symbols and visual codes through which we present ourselves. Each painting is an original, hand-painted work and forms part of a series of 11 unique variations.
