Beauty is not an invitation (Tondo) (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Marita Tobner
100 x 100 x 3cm (unframed)
£2,073
Original artwork description
„Beauty Is not an Invitation“ challenges the societal notion that visibility, attractiveness, or femininity constitute a claim to intimacy, attention, or possession.
At the center of the tondo stands a self-assured female figure who meets the viewer’s gaze without submitting to it. Surrounded by lush colors, floral forms, cacti, and a bird, a visual world unfolds—one filled with contrasts: attraction and boundary-setting, vulnerability and strength, beauty and resilience.
The cacti play a central role in this composition. They captivate with their beauty and magnificent blooms, yet simultaneously establish clear boundaries. They serve as a symbol demonstrating that beauty can be admired without being available. This work is an invitation to reflect on perception, respect, and self-determination.
The sides of the tondo are painted black; the artwork is executed using high-quality acrylic paints and protected by a matte, UV-resistant varnish. It comes ready to hang.
