A great rose-mauve mountain fills the sky with quiet authority, its slopes catching pale light against a silvery overcast sky. Below, a vibrant middle ground of autumn trees erupts in bursts of amber, crimson, and deep green, while lush meadow grasses in fresh yellow-green sweep across the foreground in energetic, gestural strokes. The mood is contemplative yet alive — that particular stillness of a highland day when clouds diffuse the light into something almost tender. Rich impasto technique gives the landscape a palpable physicality, as if the earth itself has texture and weight.
