Abstraction of the beautiful Ashburnham Place in Battle, Sussex. Underlayers are textured and the final layers rendered in large free brushstrokes. The deep olive green symbolises God's creation in that liminal place and the pink is both for the various flowers and blossoms but also the joy of heart when spending time there.
The place is particularly precious to the artist who used to have a studio on the grounds and has artwork in permanent collection. It is a Christian sanctuary and retreat centre.
