Part of an ongoing series exploring the relationship between horizon, atmosphere, and coastal space. This original oil painting captures a quiet moment along the shoreline, where shifting clouds, fading light, and layered bands of water and land create a subtle sense of movement.

The composition is built around the contrast between the expansive blue-grey sky and the luminous, textured shoreline. A small, distant sun becomes a quiet focal point, while muted tones of blue, slate, ivory, and pale peach suggest the changing light of the late afternoon.

Working with a palette knife, I build the surface through layered impasto and expressive horizontal gestures. The tactile quality of the paint reflects the movement of water and the shifting character of the atmosphere, while the simplified composition allows light, colour, and space to take precedence over detail.

Rather than depicting a specific location, the painting explores the feeling of a landscape held in memory. It is part of my ongoing Atmospheric Studies series, in which recurring horizons become a way to observe how subtle changes in light and colour transform our perception of a place.

This is an original, one-of-a-kind oil painting, created in 2026.

About
Landscape, for me, is not a destination but a condition of seeing. I return to the same motif repeatedly—not to describe a particular place, but to understand how light, colour,... Read more
