Inspired by the arabesque pattern, this piece came to me in a dream where red and gold were intertwined in an intricate, organic pattern of an arabesque.
Note. The arabesque is a form of artistic decoration consisting of "surface decorations based on rhythmic linear patterns of scrolling and interlacing foliage, tendrils" or plain lines, often combined with other elements.
The symbolism of the colors:
Red, the color of blood and fire, is associated with meanings of love, passion, desire, heat, longing, lust, sexuality, sensitivity, romance, joy, strength, leadership, courage, vigor, willpower, rage, anger, danger, malice, wrath, stress, action, vibrance, radiance, and determination.
The color gold is the color of extravagance, wealth, riches, and excess, and shares several of the same attributes of the color yellow. The color gold is a warm color that can be either bright and cheerful or somber and traditional. The color gold is a cousin to the color yellow and the color brown and is also associated with illumination, love, compassion, courage, passion, magic, and wisdom.
I designed the arabesque pattern myself and applied it in a repetitive manner on the red surface which consists of several layers of oil and cold wax applied on a pre-grounded, cradled, wooden panel. The gold of the arabesque was done using gilding wax gold while the edges of the wooden panel are perfectly smooth, were done with metal leaf, sealed with a layer of shellac.
It is ready to hang and it can work just as well as a vertical or as a horizontal painting, depending on your space. I’ve included above a few interiors images which might give you an idea of the possibilities.
