Anticipation (2023) Original Oil Painting by Mariia Bashtova

Anticipation begins before anything happens. A possibility takes shape in the mind, and the present becomes charged with thoughts of what might come next. A meeting, an answer, a change—something still unknown starts to occupy our attention.
This painting explores that suspended moment, when hope and uncertainty coexist. Waiting can make us more attentive, but it can also turn us inward, where imagined conversations and possible outcomes unfold long before reality catches up.

“Anticipation” leaves the coming event undefined. At its heart is the private experience of waiting, and the way something that has not yet happened can already affect us.
