Always running late? Me too. In Ireland, being 15 minutes behind is practically on time, and I still find myself rushing. That's why I painted this: a figure who has finally stopped, alone with herself, listening to the silence.

Bold planes of green, yellow, purple and red, outlined in turquoise, glow against deep midnight blue. Around her I left the creamy paper bare, and its warm tone and grain let the whole figure breathe. Inspired by Matisse and Modigliani, I kept the forms simple and elongated: closed eyes, one arm wrapped around her knee, nothing more than she needs.

Oil pastel on heavy 160 gsm paper gives a velvety, layered surface, and you can see every stroke up close. She brings a quiet pause to a bedroom, a desk or a living room wall.
