Original artwork description
This painting is richly intricate, somewhat paisley-like, replete with intricate details of swirling and flowing reds, blues, greens, turquoise, silver, greys, etc. Complex, elegant, an "all over" painting meant to engage the mind as well as the eye, and thus reward long looking. The Abstract Expressionists, specifically Joan Mitchell's work, is an influence here, as well as ideas about art as a field of energy. It's painted in encaustic to which I've added oil stick and powdered pigments, allow the thermal energy of the fusing process, along with air currents that effect the surface as the wax cools, to be part of the shaping and striating effects. Because the image is built up through the applications of multiple layers of encaustic paint (highly pigmented pharmaceutical beeswax and damar resin), the painting reflects these depths along with the natural luminosity of the wax. Painting ships with a Certificate of Authenticity, professionally crated and insured.
