Original artwork description
This artwork, drawn in ballpoint pen, incorporates collage to depict an image of masculinity epitomised by the motif of ‘the boxer’. Using an instantly recognisable figure as Muhammad Ali, immediately evokes a sense of importance to the context that the ethnic male figure is positioned within as he is presented as ‘the alpha’. The collaged elements come from a British newspaper and 1970s pages of a Sierra Leonean text.
