Original artwork description:

"A Place Of Odd Glances" is an acrylic, encaustic and mixed media painting on canvas 60cms W x 90cms H. The painting takes inspiration from Miles Davis’ album ‘Aura’ where every composition is an interpretation of a colour. The painting also sources neo classical musician Harold Budd and in particular a collaborative work with Andy Partridge from which the title is named. The painting follows a pathway of layered improvisation built in colourful blankets of dyes, acrylic, encaustic and other assorted media. This painting is a close to pure abstraction as I have been. Pure abstraction works on the viewer very quickly: that combination of colour, form and composition provokes an almost instinctive, instant response – or not. It only takes a few seconds to decide whether you like an abstract painting. There is a tension in the painting between colour and texture as each element works across the surfaces which are dense with multiple layers which cancel out each other. The overall effect being dramatic. Keeping painting simple isn’t easy because you have to put in all these other things that are on your mind too, just to see what emerges, what comes to the forefront. You’ve got to put in all this chaos, all of one’s ideas. There’s no easy way to make it simple. I continue to be inspired by modern colourists such as Howard Hodgkin, Barbara Rae and John Hoyland together with early Renaissance works, African Art and Art Brut. Limited edidition A2 prints of the painting are available see description.
The painting is shipped in a robust custom made cardboard crate (same as those used to transport large screens). The painting is bubble wrapped to protect the canvas. Further wrapping is made with corrugated card. A wooden frame is placed inside the cardboard crate to preserve the structural strength of the packaging. Each painting is insured to its sale value. Shipping costs within the U.K. take into consideration weight and insurance. U.K. shipping costs for this artwork are £75

Materials used:

Acrylic, encaustic and mixed media on canvas
