This photograph looks across the rooftops of Daeheungsa Temple in Haenam, South Jeolla Province, its many halls stepping back one behind another against the soft green slopes of Mount Duryun. Tiled roofs overlap at every angle — some low and modest, others flaring upward into dramatic curves — creating a skyline that feels more grown than built, as if each structure found its own space among the others over time. A stone wall in the foreground, patched with rounded river stones and white mortar, echoes the same rhythm of curve and line found in the tiles above it. Sunlight rakes across the scene at a low angle, carving deep shadows into every eave and gap between buildings. What captures me most is the sheer density of it all — a temple complex so layered that no single roofline can be read on its own, each one only making sense in relation to the ones around it.
