Biography
Throughout my professional journey, I have experienced a diverse range of roles. I have worked in an office, spent time in a shop, and enjoyed the outdoors as a post woman for a short period. My musical pursuits led me to become the lead singer in a 1970s disco band, as well as performing as a solo singer. Additionally, I owned a 12-bedroom hotel in Blackpool. Despite these varied experiences, I always sensed that something was missing—a persistent yearning for deeper satisfaction.
I obtained a degree in Interior Design, which provided me with a robust grounding in the principles of design and a comprehensive grasp of Colour Theory. These academic achievements equipped me with essential skills and knowledge, enhancing my appreciation for the finer details of visual composition.
Yet, despite the demands and rewards of my studies and professional endeavours, painting always remained a constant thread woven through my life. It was a pursuit that brought me enduring fulfilment and joy. I dedicated my spare time to painting, often finding myself engrossed in my art during weekends and evenings. No matter where I happened to be—even whilst on holiday—I would ensure to bring paint and paper with me, ever ready to seize inspiration whenever it appeared.
Each time I picked up a brush, I experienced a deep sense of satisfaction and contentment that no other activity could provide. My commitment to painting was unwavering; it brought me a genuine sense of purpose and joy, reinforcing my passion and guiding my creative journey.
Eventually, I made the momentous decision to pursue painting as my full-time profession. Resigning from my office job was both daunting and exhilarating; I found myself wrestling with doubts and questions—had I made the right choice, or was I being reckless? Despite these uncertainties, I pressed on, driven by my passion for art.
As I drove back to my home on the North Wales coast—a place I share with my husband, our lively two-year-old Labrador, and our nineteen-year-old cat—I felt a mixture of apprehension and anticipation. Approaching home, the breathtaking view of the ocean unfolded before me. It was an Indian summer, and the sun cast a shimmering glow along the coastline. In that moment, a profound sense of calm and happiness washed over me, reassuring me that everything would be alright.
Since making the decision to pursue painting as my full-time profession, everything has truly fallen into place. I have been fortunate enough to sell hundreds of my paintings, which now reside in homes and businesses not only across the UK but also overseas. The opportunity to complete numerous commissions has been deeply rewarding, allowing me to collaborate with a diverse range of clients and bring their visions to life.
My work has also found its way into art galleries in London, and I have had the privilege of presenting a solo exhibition in Wales. These experiences have allowed me to connect with a variety of art lovers and collectors, some of whom have visited my studio. Their enthusiasm and support have been a continual source of encouragement, reminding me daily of the joy and passion that art brings to my life.
Reflecting on my career, I realise I could not have wished for a more satisfying path. I am never bored, nor do I feel stuck in a rut. Art has truly become an all-consuming passion for me. There are nights when my mind is so alive with ideas for new compositions and colour schemes that restful sleep proves elusive. Yet, each day, I wake up eager to paint, care for my family, and continue pursuing my dreams and aspirations. Every moment spent in this creative pursuit reaffirms my happiness and fulfilment.
