About Sergio Ianni

Biography

In 2013 I started experimenting with icm almost by chance. The camera was on a gorillapod at a Kiefer exhibition and as I clicked a delay shot it fell down. The image was naif but resonated with my desire to go beyond the usual landscapes I did. This was my 1st icm but I was fully aware that this was my road when two friends in Bali told me they wanted a copy of a photo taken in Canggu. From that moment I shoot mostly icm and surf/landscape in Bali, Milan and Altea (Spain). My inspiration is Andy Gray from Britain, the king of icm as we call him. Photography without emotion is nothing and my aim is to capture light as painters do. My inspiration is William Turner mostly but I also took some shots inspired by Hopper as I tried to represent loneliness in a holiday location as Bali. I am now experimenting with Hokusai as inspiration and am preparing a series based on him. I will continue to shoot in Bali where I spend long periods and Altea, Spain where I live part of the time. Shooting in Milan and Lombardy has potential but it's also frustrating for the limitations some tourist locations impose. I shoot mostly limited editions on Hahnemule paper, small sizes but like experimenting with large formats though they pose technical difficulties. Note. Most of my work is @TheBaliwind ; Linktree is a new addition just for ref.
