Biography
My work is centered on the transformation of space through light.
I approach landscape as a constructed environment rather than a descriptive image. Architecture and coastline provide a structural rhythm, yet the true subject emerges when illumination alters mass, depth and balance. I am interested in the moment when solidity begins to dissolve into atmosphere.
Through the physical layering of oil paint, I build surfaces that retain both weight and vibration. Cool spatial fields extend the composition outward, while restrained warmth introduces points of tension and intimacy. The dialogue between these elements shapes the internal movement of each painting.
Light is not merely an effect within my work — it is the organizing principle. It defines structure, compresses distance and activates silence. My aim is to create environments that invite sustained contemplation, where space is experienced rather than observed.
Sergei Chernyakovsky (b. 1993, Odessa, Ukraine) is a contemporary oil painter whose practice explores the psychological and structural presence of light within architectural and coastal space.
Originally trained in classical painting at the South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University, Chernyakovsky’s early work was grounded in observational landscape. Over time, his focus shifted toward atmosphere as an autonomous subject — where structure dissolves into luminosity and place becomes secondary to perception.
His paintings develop through a layered impasto technique that emphasizes the material presence of oil paint. Architecture, shoreline and reflective surfaces function as compositional frameworks through which light reorganizes spatial tension. Rather than narrating geography, his work investigates the balance between solidity and air, density and openness.
A two-time Artfinder Bestseller, Chernyakovsky’s paintings are held in private collections across the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe. His ongoing body of work continues to examine light as both structural force and emotional catalyst within contemporary landscape painting.
