About Sabbi Gavrailov

Biography

Sabbi Gavrailov is a UK-based oil painter whose practice centres on portrait and figure, encompassing both human and equine subjects. Working predominantly in oil, his paintings are grounded in classical technique and sustained observation, with an emphasis on structure, presence, and restraint.

Originally from Bulgaria and now based in Hertfordshire, Gavrailov developed his practice through independent study and early mentorship under contemporary Bulgarian painter Geno Lazarov. His work maintains a clear dialogue with European figurative traditions while remaining firmly rooted in direct, contemporary observation.

Over the past five years, Gavrailov’s portraits and figurative works have been exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, receiving repeated recognition at juried exhibitions, including multiple Visitors’ Choice Awards at the Harpenden Art Club Annual Exhibition. In 2023, he presented his solo exhibition Roots at the Private Gallery and Art Museum Dimitar Georgiev in Plovdiv, later invited to exhibit during Brezovo’s cultural festival.

Alongside studio practice, Gavrailov continues sustained study of Old Master painting through regular engagement with major European museum collections. His commissioned works are held in private collections across Europe, the Middle East, and South America.
