About Robert Kerr

Biography

I am a London-based British artist whose work explores atmosphere, light and the emotional power of landscape. Originally trained as a professional photographer, I spent more than a decade working in portraiture, fashion and commercial photography, developing a deep appreciation for composition, light and visual storytelling. These foundations continue to influence my approach to painting today.

Living in New Zealand for many years, together with extensive travel throughout my life, fostered a lasting connection to the natural world and a fascination with the way light, weather and environment shape our experience of place. These experiences continue to inspire my work and provide a rich source of ideas drawn from forests, coastlines, wetlands and expansive natural landscapes.

Working with acrylics, oils, gold leaf and resin, I create richly layered paintings that balance observation with memory and imagination. Rather than documenting specific locations, I aim to capture a sense of atmosphere and emotion—the stillness before rain, the play of light across water, or the feeling of standing within a vast landscape.

Through my work, I hope to offer a moment of pause and connection with the natural world. My paintings are an exploration of landscape not simply as a place, but as an experience—one that evokes memory, emotion and a sense of wonder.
