Landscapes and Seascapes of West Wales
Biography
Originally from Devon, I find a lot of similarities between the coasts, rivers and countryside of the West Country and those of West Wales where I now live.
As a Welsh language learner I am also interested in the links between landscape, history and language.
I have spent time studying art history, taking an interest in local art, galleries and artists, attending many local art workshops and I am a member of local art groups. I have also taken part in many on-line art courses and seminars.
I paint mainly in oils but recently I've tried mixed media art and have begun to introduce materials such as sand and slate etc. to add interesting textures and abstract shapes to landscape / seascape painting.
I go "Plein Air" painting one day a week in the spring and Summer. Painting out in the landscape is a completely different experience from painting in the studio. Painting outside in West Wales is a challenge sometimes, with changing light , weather..........and wildlife from angry horseflies to sandwich stealing Preseli ponies !! This year I attracted a large herd of friendly cattle who followed me around a large field at the foot of the Preseli hills.
Dechreuais i baentio eto ar ôl i fi symud i Orllewin Cymru ddeuddeng mlynedd yn ôl. Yn wreiddiol o Ddyfnaint, Gwelaf lawer o debygrwydd rhwng y arfordiroedd, afonydd a chefn gwlad y ddwy ardal.
Fel dysgwr Cymraeg, mae diddordeb gyda fi hefyd yn y cysylltiadau rhwng tirwedd, hanes ac iaith.
Dw i wedi astudio hanes celf, cymryd diddordeb mewn celf leol, orielau ac arlunwyr. Dw i wedi mynd i nifer o weithdai celf lleol, a dw i’n aelod o grwpiau celf lleol. Hefyd dwi wedi cymryd rhan mewn llawer o gyrsiau a seminarau celf ar-lein .
Dw i’n paentio yn bennaf mewn olew, ond yn ddiweddar dwi wedi ceisio gwneud celf cyfrwng cymysg ac wedi dechrau defnyddio tywod a llechi ac ati ar gyfer gweadau diddorol a siapiau haniaethol i baentio tirlun / morlun.
Dw i'n paentio "Plein Air" un diwrnod yr wythnos yn y gwanwyn a'r haf. Mae paentio allan yn y tirwedd yn brofiad hollol wahanol i baentio yn y stiwdio. Mae paentio ma's yng Ngorllewin Cymru yn sialens weithiau, gyda newid golau, tywydd .......... a bywyd gwyllt o glêr llwyd dig i ferlod Preseli yn dwyn brechdanau !
