Biography
Mariia Raskin (b. 1979, Kazakhstan) is a mixed-media artist based in Turkey and Northern Cyprus. She holds Master’s degree with honors in Fashion Design from Kosygin State University in Moscow and Diploma in Traditional Iconography and Ancient Fine Art Techniques with honors. Her background spans fashion illustration, graphic design, book illustration, and icon painting.
Since 2019, Mariia has been working as a full-time artist, creating imaginative mixed-media artworks that merge abstraction and impressionism.
Her work is defined by rich tactile surfaces and a distinctive organic texture. She uses a unique oil-on-water technique, transferring fluid oil pigments onto paper to create one-of-a-kind, naturally formed patterns. These textured surfaces become the foundation for her mixed-media compositions, which she further develops through collage and hand-painted acrylic details. In some works, she incorporates handmade crocheted lace, enhancing the material depth and tactile presence of the piece.
Mariia has participated in prominent international exhibitions and art fairs, including Europe Art Fair Amsterdam (2024), Swiss Art Expo (2022, 2024, 2025), and Spectrum Miami Art Fair (2022). She held a solo exhibition in Cyprus inaugurated by the Prime Minister, and her works are part of the permanent collection of the Cyprus Modern Art Museum.
She has received more than 20 international art awards, including the Certificate of Artistic Achievement from the Luxembourg Art Prize (twice), and the Boynes Monthly Art Award (Landscape category). Mariia is a member of the International Association of Art (IAA) and the Eurasian Art Union (EAU), and has served as a juror for the New York–based nonprofit art organization Apexart. Her work has been featured on major art platforms such as Altiba9, Artsyshark, Artistcloseup, Thecuratorssalon, Authority Magazine, and Spotlight Contemporary Art Magazine (France).
Mariia sees her artistic mission in creating serene, nature-inspired works that uplift and inspire. Through her art, she transports the viewer into a positive reality where peaceful energies unfold, offering a sense of harmony, joy, and emotional renewal.
