About Rami Levinson

  • Biography
I am a self-taught artist based in San Francisco.

I constantly look at the world around me and imagine what it would look like on a canvas. Since childhood I was always fascinated by the physicality of light and how it affects colors and creates shadows and textures. Discovering the works of Edward Hopper at an early age had the most significant impact on my later artistic development.
What I was drawn to, other than his amazing technique, was his genius ability to freeze a moment in time and the drama that he created while depicting the simplest of scenes.

I've worked as a graphic designer and creative director almost my entire adult life, and though I did a lot of illustration work as part of my job, I only picked up a brush and started painting seriously in 2015. Everything you see here was created since then.

The main inspiration for my paintings comes from my immediate environment. I live in one of the most visually spectacular places in the world. From the scenery, to the architecture, to the people - the Bay Area keeps my creative juices flowing on a daily basis.

On top of that, I've been fortunate enough to be able to travel to other beautiful places which also ended up directly inspiring some of my work.
