About Pavel Guliaev

Biography

I am a professional artist with a higher education in fine art. I currently live and work in Serbia with my family. My paintings are in private collections in Italy, the USA, France, Germany, China, Russia, Portugal, England, Australia, and other countries. I create figurative paintings with obligatory storylines. I accumulate, rethink, and process what happens in reality, and compare it with world history, mythology, religion, and my personal experiences and thoughts. I call what I do “subjective realism” because I add my thoughts and feelings to reality. My paintings are a world that is interesting to look at. Deciphering the meaning and plot of the image is even more interesting since I use many symbols, both known and those invented by me. But every viewer, looking at any of my paintings, can see his own story; in a sense, I consider them co-authors. For me, the most important thing is that I can express my ideas, my thoughts, my attitude to reality and the world through my paintings and, of course, share this with other people. I can't imagine my life without art. To create my works, I use classic oil painting, I like working in oil on canvas, this technically allows me to realize my ideas and use different techniques, such as “glaze” and “impasto”. As for the style of drawing and composition, this is simply the result of experience, the search for the most suitable means of expression, and taste preferences.
