About Oksana Siciliana

Biography

Hi! My name is Oksana Evteeva and I am a Sicilian artist.

I am the ambassador of Sicily in the art

I paint love and inspiration from everything around me, from the stones of medieval cobblestones, and lanterns braided with trees to random scenes of ordinary Sicilian life, full of incredible fascination for me and I fill my paintings with it. I cannot imagine my life without Sicily and enjoy every day I spend here. For me, the fusion of a very different history, and culture, the kindness and openness of others, and the stunning nature and food make Sicily a true paradise on Earth. Moreover, I wish my paintings could convey this love and admiration so that they would make people fall in love with Sicily.

Sicily is full of directions to explore, but I concentrated my research on the following directions that interest me the most:

- In dialogue with Foucault's concept, I explore and investigate the ability of Sicilians to enjoy simple everyday life.
I wonder, what is the Sicilian version of Benessere? It is a special and unique way of taking care of yourself. It is enjoying life in the smallest of ways, like having a cup of coffee on the balcony with a beautiful view, even if you have to get up at 6 am to do so. All little care acts can give us an incredible physical and mental sense of self-care and make a pleasure of the environment, the events, and the people around us for a pleasant environment around you.
I research how close it is to the concept of Epicureanism, how it creates an individual identity for Sicilians and how they manage to preserve and carry it through the generations.

- The next strand of research is the harmonization of the historical narrative. I explore how great epochs, history and nationalities merge in Sicilian daily life.

- According to Heidegger's concept, they contain a hidden meaning I capture landscapes, domestic sketches and still lives on canvas in an attempt to convey an aura (according to the definition by Walter Benjamin).
My paintings not only try to capture things and landscapes within the moment but contain a hidden meaning, where each thing is full of its own story, and a lovely landscape hides a deep subtext.

- And finally, the theme of my research is freedom. In my paintings, I tell my personal story of finding freedom, which is transformed through the Sicilian prism.

Last year I participated in the group exhibitions in MEAM, Spain, the Biennial International Exhibition of Etruria (B.I.E.) in France, the UK, and Germany and in a few exhibitions in Italy.

In recent years I boast several International Collective Exhibitions including the 58th Venice Biennale and I participated in the exhibition with the Charity Sotheby’s Auction.
