My paintings, created in watercolour, are illustrations of my favourite locations. They are all places that I have visited during the last 15 years and have been completed in-situ or developed from smaller watercolour sketches from my small Moleskine watercolour sketchbook. I usually take photographs of the scene to record details or perspective but never paint entirely from a photograph as the picture would lack the required spontaneity. I paint from a limited palette using only 3-5 colours, mainly cobalt blue, light red, raw sienna, burnt sienna and sometimes for convenience, paynes grey. My work has been inspired by my teacher and local artist Mike Lang and by the work of Edward Wesson, Rowland Hilda and Brian Ryder.
