The seaside is at the heart of all my painting. With each painting I aim to capture that elusive special moment, a nostalgic brief heartbeat of time that underlines what life is all about.
What better subject is the English east coast , and all that goes on around and about, from family beach scenes, harbour life and wide open seas. I'm also pretty fond of my son's family border collie!
Each painting holds no hidden meaning, although there are puzzles sometimes in the narrative. They are a salute to the joy of life, an observation of what goes on around us, and a way of saying just how beautiful the world is.
Usually I paint in oils always using my own observation, drawing on the spot, taking photos on my phone, and then back to the studio where the painting takes shape.
My style is mainly impressionistic, my influences the Impressionists, Post Impressionists and the artist Nicholas Verrall.
