  • Biography
I love to paint, as each painting is an exploration, an exciting discovery. My work is made to be lived with, to bring joy to the collector, to be a place where the collector can enjoy the color and marks as much as I had in making them. Years ago, I painted landscape and still life. However I was always enamored with abstraction and non objective painting. It was a language I could “read", but could not yet “speak.” So I sought out other artists who spoke this language and studied their work. I analyzed it and questioned as to what it was that attracted me. Finally, I took a large landscape painting I had completed and decided to just paint over it, with no preconceived ideas, no specific concepts in mind, other than color choices. I painted with abandon, and I began my first stumbling words in abstraction; I worked on my personal abstract language. This continued for the next few years, and honed my own invented language, I set out on speaking fluently, even poetically. This took a bit of confidence and presence of mind, and I indulged in it completely and never looked back. I have had success with sales, usually out of my own studio, and some galleries. I do enjoy my buyers and the dialogues I have engaged. Over course of years I was fortunate to meet influential artists. First while working as a newspaper art reviewer I met, interviewed and wrote about Keith Haring; I interviewed and wrote about the Guerilla Girls. Later as a gallery director at a university, i had the great pleasure of working with architect Der Scutt. My first one person exhibit was with a juried show, selected by Lowery Sims, a curator with the Metropolitan Museum of Art. All of my experiences, including 10 years as an art reviewer, 20 years as a gallery director and 30+ years negotiating the art world as a visual artist, has shaped and understand contemporary art. Why am I interested in ARTFINDER? I did a bit of research on the site, and it fits my goals. My goals, have never wavered over the past decades: to make and sell art. ARTFINDER has the selection process to insure the best art is included; ARTFINDER has the professional management system that makes things run smoothly for the artist and the client, and it offers opportunities (such as open call). ARTFINDERS goals align with mine.
