    About 20 years ago, I bought a house of my own (mortgaged myself to the moon and beyond!) It is a 1930 Caped Cod, a small house in a small town. There is also a garage, originally a one story, dirt floor, no electric, no heat, no water. Perfect! About 10 years ago I took out another loan, and refurbished that garage. added a second story, a deck, cement floor and electric.(still no water, just too pricey, but its behind the house, so its a short walk to the necessary room.) I am very fortunate.
