Recently following the ups and downs of illustrating in publishing I rediscovered Etching and the freedom from the constraints of deadlines. I enjoy the whole process from the alchemy of the etch to the beautiful linear quality that can be achieved. I see it as an extension of drawing producing both delicate and bold lines, cross hatching and brooding shadows and depths. Many of the themes and threads running through my work come from book illustrating time. Hints of folk tales, fairy tales, characters from poetry and my own archive can be found, also I hope my love of nature, place and creatures . I enjoy using etching as a means of conveying humour and narrative. I see my prints as illustrations telling a story. At the same time I continue to draw and paint in watercolour
