About Joe Mcdonald

Biography

Name:  Joe McDonald
Birthplace:  Newcastle Upon Tyne 1967
Current Location:  Perranporth Cornwall

Joe McDonald is a figurative artist based in Cornwall.  He mainly paints in oils, leaning towards photorealism using a vibrant colour palette.  His paintings are set in imaginary locations which show backgrounds resonating his interest in architecture.  His recent works are often set in swimming pools, sometimes at night, capturing the splendour of underlit  water in a Californian modernist home, quiet victorian baths in an English city or a colder, wild place somewhere in Scandinavia.   Other paintings show situations of opulence and glamour.  Women are the central focus of his paintings, most often on their own, caught at a moment of stillness and inner reflection.  The viewer is encouraged to think about the inner world of the people in Joe's paintings, what might have led them to the situation they are in and how they might feel about their lives.
