About Jean-Luc Feugeas

  • Biography
“Jean-Luc Feugeas is a French artist and researcher whose work lies at the intersection of painting and mathematics. His creative approach is rooted in an insatiable curiosity, leading him to explore the origins of ideas in both science and art. This deep reflection on the creative process has led him to break down the barriers between his two pursuits, now considering them as two sides of the same quest for knowledge and expression. In his fragmented and colorful compositions, he touches on ordinary themes such as otherness, desire, absence, and society. These formal spaces become metaphors for the human, social, and political spaces in which we, as viewers, navigate daily. He draws inspiration from his experiences in both science and art, viewing his approach as that of a researcher in both fields. His creative process favors the intuition of reality over the basic rules of realistic representation, thus freeing his work from the constraints of perspective and proportion. This approach leads to a series of accidents that guide his hand, resulting in a work where the initial intention re-emerges in a finally achieved global balance. Feugeas’ work has been exhibited internationally, including recent shows by Frogman Gallery in Beijing, China, and a permanent exhibition of his work by Dom-Art Gallery in Dax, France. His creations are part of private collections in North America, Europe, and East Asia. His contribution to the art world extends beyond his canvases; Feugeas is also known for his approach to street art. By incorporating elements of the urban landscape into his works, he prompts reflection on viewpoint and perception, inviting the viewer to rediscover their everyday environment from a new perspective. He has completed several public mural projects in France and abroad. His mural “Un Sauvage” and the painting “Les sauvages” reflect on contemporary issues such as borders, territories, and the freedom of movement, while also touching on the plight of migrants faced with indifference and brutality. Feugeas cites Le Corbusier, Wassily Kandinsky, Robert Rauschenberg, and Pablo Picasso among his main influences, admiring their ability to explore, theorize, and innovate. His scientific mentor instilled in him the importance of integrity in both scientific research and art, a lesson he considers fundamental to his creative process. Jean-Luc Feugeas is an artist who transcends disciplinary boundaries to explore the spaces where art, science, and societal and human issues intertwine, offering a profound and thoughtful body of work that challenges and engages the viewer.”
