About Isabel Mahe

Biography

Self-taught by choice as much as by temperament, I have developed my work outside the traditional academic path. Through observation, experimentation, and constant self-questioning at the easel, I gradually found my own artistic voice.

My painting is deeply rooted in the figurative tradition. Above all, I seek light, the harmony of form, and the quiet presence of my subjects. Through glazing, layered transparent colours, and the patient shaping of the painted surface, I strive to create a sense of depth that invites the viewer's gaze to linger.

The female figure holds a central place in my work. It is never merely a subject, but a language through which I explore gentleness, strength, freedom, and silence. My paintings often enter into a dialogue with the great masters—not to imitate them, but to continue a conversation that began centuries ago.

Rather than telling a story, I seek to evoke an emotion: a suspended moment, a meeting point between reality and imagination.

For me, painting is an invitation to slow down. To look differently. To allow an emotion to emerge without the need to explain everything.
