Biography
My paintings are inspired by music, movement and the atmosphere of place. When I paint a musician, I am not simply making a portrait — I interpret my visceral response to their music through colour, gesture and expressive brushwork. I want the paintings to convey something of the energy of the performance and the character of the musician.
My watercolours explore the beauty and atmosphere of landscape and architecture. Many are painted en plein air, directly responding to changing light, weather and the character of a place.
Across both mediums, I am interested in creating paintings that are atmospheric, expressive and personal, combining observation with interpretation rather than simply recording what I see.
