About Daniil Mikhailov

Biography

I mainly paint landscapes. It's simple. Something attracts attention and you look and can not tear yourself away. It can be the light of the setting sun on the crown and trunk of a pine tree, or daylight in the juicy young grass, reflexes and shades, glare, or a shadow that has fallen wildly. It is these moments that I try to capture and show to the viewer, to share what I saw, noticed and saved. The basis of my work is the impression of what I saw, the experiences that I experienced at that moment. Painting is a beautiful, capacious and understandable, international language in which I can communicate with the audience. I like the process itself.
I use soft, raw watercolor undercoat and rough, covering brush strokes with a palette knife in the second, final stage. This creates light transparent shadows and a dense, textured light. For me, some understatement, a departure from high detail, is important. I leave this space to the viewer as an opportunity to participate in the creation of work, a place for thought and imagination and, possibly, pleasure from them.
