About Beth Shadur

  • Biography
I am an artist who has painted with primarily watercolor for many years and have exhibited my work extensively in the United States and abroad in both solo and group exhibitions. I have a strong love of nature, and create works that express the beauty of pristine landscapes in order to encourage awareness of the necessity to be stewards of our planet. My works over the years have addressed this theme, and, in the past, focused on plants and animals threatened with extinction. I find that nature provides such unusual forms that trigger my imagination with its beauty. For my works, I do lots of research, hike in various places and make many photographs. I often work from my own photographs, and often focus on unusual details and natural forms within a larger environment. I am currently working on a series called The National Park Project, and have also addressed environmental issues in Banff, Canada; Iceland; and Ireland. I frequently go to various places as an Artist-in-Residence in order to get to know more intimately the area on which I am focusing. I have used watercolor for my works because I love the glow of color that is achieved by working with transparent paint. I have focused on watercolor for many years, and taught for many years. Watercolor offers the opportunity for work in such a variety of styles, and works well with my imagery. Finally, I am interested in selling works on Artfinder because it is a source that allows for a large global audience to consider my work. I am not currently represented by a commercial gallery, and have been told that Artfinder provides a wonderful web-presence.
