About Beata Podwysocka

Biography

" I don't have a philosophy, I have a camera." Saul Leiter Beata Podwysocka was born in Olsztyn, Poland. She is a self-taught artist who has been always receptive to modern art especially abstract, surrealist and minimalist forms. Her work lies at the intersection of graphics, photography and fine arts. She is drawn to the poetry of the ordinary and thus she loves exploring the surrounding world in search of scraps and patches of familiar landscapes in order to isolates shapes, forms, colours or patterns and mould them into self-existing beings. She uses her camera in the way a quilt maker handles scissors cutting out the pieces of reality and sewing them together into a fine art patchwork. While taking photographs the artist often reaches for vague and transient images such as shadows or reflections. She is fascinated with the fact that one is able to freeze the world that is absolutely intangible, but at the same time, it is inevitably and irreversibly non-existent without the actual physicality of things. Thanks to such a shift in perception she enters countless parallel worlds which are close at hand every day although we rarely realize that we live in their immediate vicinity. Her works are held in private collections all over the world, in Poland, the UK, France, Denmark, Estonia, Sweden, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Quatar, the United Emirates, New Zelandii and the USA. Since 2010 the artist has been actively and successfully participating in photographic competitions both nationally and internationally. Her works have been displayed at four solo exhibitions and several group shows as well as post-contest exhibitions. She is a member of the Association of Polish Art Photographers (ZPAF) and the International Federation of Photographic Art) (FIAP).
