About Meruzhan Khachatryan

Biography

Meruzhan Khachatryan is a contemporary Armenian oil painter whose work explores the connection between art, memory, cultural heritage and the timeless beauty of the Armenian landscape. Working primarily in traditional oil painting, he combines classical painting principles with a personal contemporary approach, creating works with a strong sense of atmosphere, depth and emotional presence.

His subjects include Armenian landscapes, historic architecture, Christian heritage, old Yerevan, still life and scenes inspired by the cultural identity of Armenia. Rather than simply documenting a place or object, Khachatryan seeks to convey the feeling and memory associated with it — the silence of an ancient monastery, the character of an old street, the changing light over a mountain landscape or the quiet poetry of everyday objects.

His paintings are developed through careful observation, drawing, composition and layered application of oil paint. Light, colour and texture play an important role in creating a sense of depth and atmosphere. He values the physical qualities of traditional oil painting and the individuality of the artist’s hand.

For Khachatryan, painting is a way of preserving memory and transforming cultural experience into a visual language that can speak beyond geographical and cultural boundaries. His works are held in private collections in different countries and continue to introduce viewers to the landscapes, heritage and emotional character of Armenia.
