About Andrew Field

  • Biography
My work fits within the theme of English landscape tradition set by artists I admire including JMW Turner, John Constable as well as influences from the St Ives school of artists such as Peter Lanyon, Patrick Heron and Barbara Hepworth. Themes that exist within my work include references to the land and sea as well as the weather, to achieve light and atmosphere. When looking for inspiration I enjoy responding to extreme weather conditions as this has the most dramatic effect on the surrounding landscape. References to abstract expressionism can be seen within my work in use of materials such a oil, beeswax and paint mediums to create glazes of colour that are then scraped down and then built up again to achieve texture, fluidity and atmosphere, to imitate the effects of weather upon the landscape. I work on a range of different surfaces as I like to add as much variety as possible as this presents new challenges and further opportunities to experiment. All of my paintings are derived from source material in the form of studies made in sketchbooks, photographs taken and then the ideas and experiences are revisited back in my studio.

Artists from up and down the country have submitted their work to this exhibition.

Unlike our previous postcard sale this exhibition is not for charity as we didn't feel it was fair for artists to donate more of their work when times are tough for so many. Only when a piece has been sold will you know who’s work you have bought.

    Event: Unframed

    Dates: May 3, 2020 - June 13, 2020
