Following a friend’s insight, I started drawing in my late twenties. At the beginning I was some sort of outsider. This changed when I applied for a painting workshop with Antonio López and met other painters. My approach became more conscious and truthful to the way I see.
The trigger for my paintings are sensations and thoughts which appear suddenly or over time and are mostly related to introspection and social interaction. I first visualise the painting and then take photographs to guide me or paint from life. If I use a photograph I project it on the canvas, adding grids to some parts. As I gain more understanding of the painting practice, I am careful to keep that fluky initial impulse that drove me to paint when I knew nothing.
