Zebra
Original Pastel Wildlife Painting
Zebra is an original pastel wildlife portrait celebrating the distinctive beauty and character of one of Africa's most recognisable animals.
I was particularly drawn to the extraordinary natural pattern of the zebra's coat. The contrast of black and white creates an almost graphic quality, yet every animal's markings are completely individual — as unique as a fingerprint.
In this portrait, I wanted to capture that individuality while maintaining a sense of softness and natural character. The monochromatic palette allowed me to concentrate on form, expression, light and the intricate rhythm created by the stripes.
The artwork was created entirely by hand using professional artist-quality pastels on paper. Fine layers and individual pastel strokes were gradually built to create depth, texture and subtle transitions between light and shadow.
For me, wildlife realism is not simply about reproducing an animal accurately. I am interested in the individual character and remarkable details that make every animal unique.
