Artwork description:

This is a sculpture of a zebra from my series of antelope and zebras. I modelled it in cream-coloured wax and then made the stripes from dark brown wax and laid them on top so that they slightly sit above the level of the rest of the modelling, to reflect the way that a zebra’s stripes seem to stand out as such a strong pattern. When I cast it into resin I painted the zebra’s body a cream colour and the stripes nearly black. I love the fact that these amazing creatures exist in this world – too extraordinary to make up!

Zebra III is made of painted resin and mounted on a beautiful oak base. It is initialled on the inside of its left hind leg, and comes with a signed letter of authentication. It is just the right size to sit on your desk, shelves or mantlepiece and look as if it is moving across its own landscape there. Although delicately modelled, the object itself is much more robust than you might imagine, and can stand up to a few knocks in its daily life. There are just two casts in this very limited edition.
