- Witness to the Flame
Original artwork description
This work is a surrealist allegory of the inner choice between reason, emotions, and personal identity.
The silver moon with a human face symbolizes consciousness, contemplation, and the cool clarity of reason. It silently gazes at the flaming heart held out by a human hand. The heart represents passion, love, pain, and the vital force of life. It does not merely burn—it radiates light, reminding us that genuine feelings can illuminate even the deepest darkness.
Seated on the crescent moon are two nearly identical women. They may represent two reflections of the same person, two life paths, or different states of the human soul. Their resemblance speaks of inner unity, while the direction of their gazes suggests the multiplicity of choices and perspectives through which we experience the world. Suspended between heaven and earth, dream and reality, they seem to linger in a moment before taking a decisive step.
The clouds create a timeless space where a person encounters their own soul. The painting suggests that the most profound struggle does not take place in the external world, but within ourselves—between cool logic and a burning heart, between fear and the courage to live in harmony with our deepest feelings.
At the same time, this work does not offer a single, definitive interpretation. Its symbols remain open to personal reflection. For some, it may be a story about choice; for others, it speaks of wholeness, inner dialogue, or the transformative power of love. It is this openness to multiple meanings that turns the painting into a conversation with the viewer, allowing everyone to discover their own truth within it.
