Winter Sunrise over the hills
The sun was like a candle flame,
Amber and purples,
The flowing chalk hills of North Dorset,
Grasses and dried flora,
Always admiring,
Always looking.

Words and feelings of the outskirts of Shaftesbury, where I live.
Original impressionist watercolour created on Cold pressed Fabriano 300gsm 140lb.
I am so lucky and grateful when I have such beautiful scenery around me and this was my inspiration in February 2026.
I painted this watercolour as an art demonstration for two wonderful teenage girls that have just started learning watercolour techniques with me.
I first started with a deep yellow and over wet watercolour paper I dropped the colour on for the sun. Then I mixed yellow and crimson for the amber orange. Using my sable hair brush and Chinese brush. I used only three tubes of paint to make many contrasting shades. A dragging technique and scratching the paint out of the wet layers for the dried winter flora.
