Contemporary Impressionism.

This little painting was inspired by a walk last year. We had had a small flurry of snow which is getting more unusual each year so I rushed out with my camera and acquired some wonderful reference material.

This small painting was inspired by a walk I took a couple of wintwrs ago after a brief flurry of snow—something that’s becoming rarer with each passing winter. I hurried out with my camera and captured some beautiful reference photos while the scene lasted.

Back in the studio, I recreated the late-afternoon light over a vivid pink underpainting, working with thick impasto oils and energetic brushstrokes. The piece was completed in a single session, painted alla prima style.
