The peony is my favorite summer flower and I paint them as much as I can while they bloom.
This large painting was painted from life in my garden on one such summer evening. My focus was to bring out the layered structure of these flowers, so I went with a rather simplified and muted background.
The painting features rich and bold brushwork, expressively painted with artist quality oil paints.
