Wherefore art thou (2016)Acrylic painting by Rosalind Roberts
35 x 45 x 1cm (unframed)
£320
Original artwork description
A love story.
We all know the tragic story of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. A recent visit to Verona (and Juliet's balcony) brought many paintings to my mind. This is one of them, painted in commemoration of the Bard's death, 23rd April, 1616.
400 years have passed, but he is still very much alive with his words.
The passage, on ancient parchment, transferred (not stuck) to the canvas is taken from Arthur Brooke's original text: The Tragicall History of Romeus and Juliet (1562), considered to be William Shakespeare's chief source for his play Romeo and Juliet..
