Where Water Meets the Earth is an original large contemporary abstract seascape diptych by Tatiana Malinovscaia, created in 2026. The composition consists of two 80 × 120 cm acrylic paintings on canvas, designed to exist together as a panoramic exploration of water, atmosphere, reflection, and earth.

While creating this diptych, I imagined a landscape shaped by the constant movement of water. I was drawn to that uncertain place where the sea ends and the land begins—where reflections, wet sand, distant water, and changing light overlap until their boundaries become impossible to define.

I wanted the two canvases to feel connected without becoming mirror images. Each panel has its own rhythm and atmosphere, but horizontal passages of blue, white, charcoal, and warm earth tones travel visually from one painting to the other. Together they create the sensation of looking across an expansive shoreline rather than at a single fixed view.

The upper areas are lighter and more atmospheric, built from soft aqua blue, pale turquoise, blue-grey, warm white, ivory, beige, taupe, and smoky grey. Toward the lower sections, the composition becomes deeper and more grounded, with navy, charcoal, espresso brown, burnt umber, rust, ochre, and dark blue creating the impression of wet earth, deep water, and fragmented reflections.

I developed both surfaces with professional acrylic paints using palette knives, brushes, glazing, scraping, dry-brush techniques, layering, dripping, and expressive impasto applications. Some passages are heavily textured and tactile, while others are softer and translucent. Scraped layers reveal colors underneath, allowing the surfaces to retain traces of the painting process.

The composition moves deliberately between abstract landscape and contemporary seascape. From a distance, the horizontal structure may suggest water, shoreline, clouds, and reflected light. Up close, these references dissolve into layers of paint, texture, gesture, and color.

For me, Where Water Meets the Earth is not about a particular coastline. It is about the feeling of standing before an open landscape and watching its boundaries disappear—the moment when sky becomes reflection, water becomes earth, and the familiar turns abstract.

Displayed side by side, the two 80 × 120 cm vertical canvases create an impressive large-scale diptych approximately 160 × 120 cm, excluding the space between the panels.

Both paintings are unique, one-of-a-kind original artworks, signed on the front and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Please note: Both paintings are sold unstretched and shipped rolled together in a protective tube for safe international transportation. They will require stretching onto wooden stretcher bars after delivery.
