Artwork description
On the western edge of Orkney, the coastline at Birsay feels almost untouched by time. Layer upon layer of ancient flagstone reaches towards the Atlantic, each one carved by centuries of wind, rain and tide. It is a landscape of extraordinary strength, yet it was the sky that morning that held my attention.
Dark clouds swept across the island while the horizon slowly filled with warm amber light. For a few precious moments the heavens seemed to open, revealing delicate blues hidden within the storm and bathing the distant sea in gold. Standing there, surrounded by the sound of waves and the scent of salt, there was a profound sense of hope emerging from darkness.
This photograph explores that fleeting conversation between permanence and light. The ancient geology of Orkney anchors the composition while the ever-changing sky reminds us that even the darkest clouds eventually part.
Printed using museum-quality archival materials, each edition preserves every subtle texture within the rocks and every luminous transition in the sky. Available in bespoke oversized statement sizes for collectors, designers and luxury interiors.
About My Work
I believe in giving my clients beautiful artwork on luxury papers that hold their colours for a lifetime! For these special prints of my work I use dreamy, light textured Canson Canvas and the highest quality inks. I do all my own printing, having spent years learning this skill I prefer to maintain control of the colour representation at all stages to ensure you get a truly handmade image.
About My Materials
People often say that my images look like paintings because of the richness of the colours, the depth of the black and the texture of the materials I use. Canson are one of the oldest paper manufacturers in the world, they have been making paper for over 450 years in France. Canson are Eco Friendly - they purchase paper pulp only from forests managed in a sustainable way which also makes them pretty special.
