This plein air painting was created over a warm ochre imprimatura, capturing a walking path along the Isar River near Munich. I was drawn to the three trees framing the road on one side and the small wayside shrine on the other.
The sky is dramatic and restless, yet the landscape itself is filled with warm, harmonious tones. The road begins beside the shrine and leads the viewer’s eye into the distance, creating a quiet sense of depth and contemplation. The scene depicts late autumn or early winter.
The edges of the canvas are painted in the same ochre tone as the imprimatura, allowing the work to be displayed without framing if desired.
