Original artwork description
This is the second of two pencil studies of breaking waves that were drawn from the beach outside the Discovery Kartika Plaza, Kuta Beach Bali. I love the Ocean and on this day the breaking waves were making these beautiful small barrels and I wanted to try to capture them. There were also a few small boats out at sea as the fishermen and surfers enjoyed the ocean and I wanted to include them in the picture. It is actually quite difficult to draw the constantly moving and shape changing ocean as your point of reference is always moving! It was a bright sunny day and the barrel of the wave was the darkest spot in the ocean at that time. This study was done using a pencil as I wanted to work quickly and catch the different shades of the water.
I like the different feeling that the colour of each drawing has created.
