The painting is based on a small ink drawing on paper. I wanted to give the impression that the people in the space were waiting for something, perhaps listening to see if it was safe to go out. Staying in a darkened enclosed space suggesting that conflict or at lease unsafe conditions were ongoing in the street outside.
